Mobility for U® partners with all the major St. Louis Hospitals and International medical referral groups. We found out about a devastating disease called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), a form of Cerebral Palsy. We were contacted by an English family who had two daughters stricken with this disease and were planning a trip to the world-famous St. Louis Children’s Hospital where the two girls could receive surgical relief from this condition. They needed to be picked up at the airport and rent a van for their four week stay in St. Louis. Mobility for U® was up for the challenge! The family arrived in St. Louis and their operations were incredibly successful! After about three weeks, my wife and I had a dinner party at our home to celebrate and offer them a taste of a home cooked meal instead of hospital or hotel food. Then we took them to Ted Drewes for dessert and an original taste of St. Louis. We remain friends with them to this day and correspond with them regularly.
Last summer, a St. Louis family wanted to transport their 82-year-old, wheelchair bound grandmother from her Minneapolis home to a new permanent residence in St. Louis. Grandmother couldn’t fly because she had to position her legs out straight in front of her. The family initially contacted an air ambulance service and Mobility for U® provided the family with complete transportation service for 30% of the cost of hiring an air ambulance! They called Mobility for U® and we were up to the challenge. We sent two caregivers and one of our vans to Minneapolis and safely brought grandmother to St. Louis for thousands of dollars less than using an ambulance service and this included the hotel for the caregivers in Minneapolis, meals, gas—everything. The family was ecstatic!
One of my favorite stories—a family, who is now a member of our family of customers, really wanted their 92-year-old grandmother and grandfather to attend their daughter’s wedding and could not figure out how to transport them to the celebration. Both granddad and grandma were in electric wheelchairs and would not only needed transportation, but also assistance with personal hygiene and feeding. Our solution—we provided a male caregiver for grandfather, a female caregiver for grandmother and one of our Mobility for U® accessible vans. We picked up our passengers at their assisted living center on Saturday afternoon at 3PM, transported them to the downtown wedding and then to the reception. This allowed the grandparents to attend the entire wedding day and it was easy on the bridal party, too!
The irony of the event was that we originally were scheduled to take grandfather and grandmother back to their assisted living center at 7:30 PM, but they were having so much fun that they closed the reception at 10:00 PM! A great time had by all!
The other night, I received a panic call from one of our family of customers who had to transport his 88-year-old mother to the hospital. He discovered that a local ambulance service would cost $495.00 for the service. So, our client called Mobility for U®, picked up one of our vans at 11:00 PM, drove his mom to the hospital and was only charged $135.00 and he had the van for 24-hour!
It was great meeting you this morning.
On behalf of Mike’s entire family, we thank you for your efforts and kindness.
